Acid Reflux Help
Burning pain in the upper stomach, indigestion, sour taste the mouth, bloated feeling – the symptoms of acid reflux
can be pretty uncomfortable. Once you check with your doctor to make sure it isn’t another problem, you can usually
get relief with some home and over-the-counter remedies. Here are some things to try for acid reflux
help.
One obvious thing is to avoid things that you know cause you problems. If you know that
pepperoni pizza bothers you, don’t eat pepperoni pizza. On other hand, we’re all going to indulge sometime. And
some people have problems no matter what they eat. In that case, try these treatment to see if they help.
A ____ a Day Keeps the Acid Away
This is amazing simple, but people swear by it and it’s healthy so I really think you should
give it a try. Here it is: eat an apple.
I have no idea why or how it works, but I’m not alone in finding it helpful.
Some people find a specific variety of apple works best for them, but that seems to be
inconsistent.
My recommendation is to start with a variety of apple that you like. Then experiment to see if
another variety works better. Eat ¼ - ½ an apple after every meal and before going to bed.
You could eat more if you want, but that would be a lot of apples in the course of the day. Some
peolple who have problems mostly at night eat an apple sometime between having dinner and going to bed with good
results.
The good thing about trying this to help acid reflux is that there’s no downside. For one thing,
we all should be eating more fruits and vegetables. For another, we're talking about eating an apple. Since we're
no longer in the Garden of Eden, what's the risk of that? :-)
Digestive Enzymes
Another thing to try is digestive enzymes. Some people theorize that problems
with reflux come up because of a lack of proper enzymes to aid with digestion.
You can find over the counter capsules of digestive enzymes at a heath food store. Use according
to the package directions (it’s usually 1 or 2 capsules with each meal).
Not All Bacteria Are Bad
You can also try taking probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria. We need normal levels of
bacteria in our GI tract for proper digestion. Today’s typical diet, with all the additives and antibiotic residues
it contains, often upsets the normal internal balance. You can restore it by taking supplements.
You can also eat yogurt regularly to do the same thing. However, the
bacteria count in probiotic capsules is much higher. Personally, I eat yogurt regularly and occasionally buy a
bottle of probiotics to use as an additional precaution.
If It Works For Burns...
The last acid reflux help tip I’m going to mention now is aloe vera. People are most familiar
with aloe vera as a folk rememdy for minor burns. In the same was that it can sooth a burn, it soothes the stomach
lining. You can find preparations at a health food store. If you have an aloe vera plant you can peel a segment of
a leaf and mix it in a blender with water to make your own.
These ideas are just a few of the remedies you can try to get relief from acid reflux. You will
find more suggestion on other pages on this site.
